The dry conditions and warm temperatures had Texas Forest Service and other area crews trying to put out various fires around Texas on Thursday.

According to a news release sent out by Jeanne Eastham, Texas Forest Service public information officer, a fire in Hidalgo County had burned 25,600 acres and four homes were lost. The fire is 50 percent contained and 500 people were evacuated.

In Hemphill County, a fire that burned 5,000 acres is 80 percent contained. There were 25 structures threatened but none were damaged.

A fire in Brooks County burned 2,500 acres and one building was lost. Eastham said the fire was 75 percent contained and crews were making good progress on putting out the flames.
