New name, new logo for fire department

The Odessa Fire Department is now known as Odessa Fire/Rescue. The name change, announced Monday, reflects the changing needs of the community, officials said.

As a result of a higher demand for EMS services, three stations are equipped with Squads, or four door ambulances, allowing a full crew of four personnel to respond to an EMS incident without an using one of the engines.

The new deployment saves money as well as provides a more efficient response.

• Kasi Dye Dominey I like the right one (the new one) the best but I'm confused as to why the name is Fire/Rescue when it seems like it should be Fire & Rescue (or something of the sort). Everytime I read it I'm saying to myself Fire Slash Rescue. Doesn't sound right.
