510-acre grassfire in Terrell County
TRRELL COUNTY Firefighters are trying to control a massive 510-acre grass fire northwest of Dryden, Texas Forest Service spokesman Marq Webb said.
Webb said in a news release that six homes and 15 outbuildings were considered threatened by the fire Tuesday evening. The fire was 50 percent contained as six air tankers, a "Helitanker" and several bulldozers and engines worked the fire.
The weather hasn’t helped. Webb said in the news release that lightning sparked the fire Monday, and by Tuesday a strong southerly wind pushed the fire north into an adjoining ranch.
When called by an Odessa American reporter, Terrell County volunteer fire chief Bobby Brotherton said he was too busy to talk since he was working on a fire and hung up.
