    Fire burns shed, valuables

    Comments 0 | Recommend 0

A fire at 6605 Kermit Ave. destroyed a shed and some valuables inside.

The Odessa Fire Department responded to a structure fire at about 5:30 p.m. Battalion Chief Kevin Doan said. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to a shed behind the home on Kermit Avenue Doan said.

Property owners Tommy and Janet Walters were in their home when a neighbor told them their backyard shed was on fire.

"There were some sentimental things in there, some antiques and some junk. A lot of junk," Janet Walters said.

About four kittens were recovered from the shed alive but were burned. Odessa Animal Control came to retrieve the kittens but Doan did not expect the kittens to make it.

Because the fire occurred outside the city limits, the Ector County Sheriff's Office requested that the OFD investigate the fire.

"There's some suspicion. There's no lightning and it got started somehow," Doan said.
