    Blazes contained

Two large wildfires in Midland County were contained as of late Monday afternoon.

The 1,000-acre grassfire in Greenwood that has been burning since Friday is 100 percent contained but is not listed as controlled, Texas Forest Service Public Information Officer Marq Webb said. Local fire departments continue to monitor this fire and drown out hot spots but no Texas Forest Service resources were at this fire Monday. The fire threatened a total of 113 homes and 51 outbuildings. All homes were saved, but two outbuildings were lost.

A 20-acre fire south of the Midland International Airport was listed as 100 percent contained but not controlled, Webb said. The fire temporarily closed FM 1788 on Saturday as air tankers and firefighters tried to put it out, Webb said. No Texas Forest Service personnel were on scene Monday.

The smaller fire was not near any homes but was in the middle of several oil pumps and near a major power line, he said. None of those structures were damaged.

No injuries were reported in either fire.
