Fire in West Odessa

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

WEST ODESSA West Odessa volunteer firefighters were called to what they believed was a structure fire at 3:02 p.m. at 12019 Doris Drive. Firefighters also feared a paraplegic was trapped inside the building.

As a precaution, West Odessa Volunteer Fire Department called out for city firefighters and the South Ector County Volunteer Fire Department.

"I don't like having people in a burning house," West Odessa Fire Chief Jimmy Ellis said. Ellis said he called out the extra units and doesn't apologize for taking the extra precaution when someone's life could be on the line.

When firefighters arrived, it turned out to be a grass fire behind the trailer home, and no one was injured.

Ellis, accompanied by Oncor inspectors, said a preliminary investigation revealed exposed electrical wires in the back yard but a conclusive cause had not yet been determined.

Ellis said he had the electricity shut off to the house and had notified the Red Cross to provide temporary support and care for Linda Settles, 57, Anthony Settles, 21, and the two children ages 2 and 4 who live at the house and were there at the time of the fire.
