Grass fire burns 400 acres

WARD COUNTY The cavalry got called out to fight a 400-acre grass fire Sunday in Ward County .

Texas Forest Service public information officer Alan Craft said up to eight volunteer fire departments were assisted by the forest service's Midland-based Task Force 13, which deployed four single-engine aircrafts, three helicopters, three bulldozers and three fire engine crews to put out the blaze off Interstate 20 near Monahans.

Craft said the "Anthony Fire" started just before 3 p.m., and it took crews nearly six hours to contain it. Forest service officials hadn't determined a cause Sunday night.

Craft said he had no reports of injures and no buildings were damaged.
