CRANE COUNTY It took firefighters three hours to extinguish a blaze that popped up in Crane County Monday.

The Crane County Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire around 6:15 p.m., Sherriff Robert DeLeon said.

DeLeon said electrical lines caused the fire to spark up about 5-miles West of Highway 385 on FM 1233 and South of 1233 on University Land.

Officials did not know how many acres had burned as of press time Monday.

The Texas Forest Service stayed busy with a grass fire of its own in Dawson County just 14-miles east of Lamesa.

According to the TFS, the fire destroyed 150 acres and was 90-percent contained as of 4:30 p.m. Monday.

One home was in the fires path but was saved by firefighters.

On Sunday, a grass fire in Midland destroyed 150 acres on Horton Ranch about 11-miles south of the Tall City.

TFS Public Information Officer Lewis Kearney said four oil wells were threatened in that blaze.
