Odessans can show their support for Odessa High graduate Esteban Velasquez by attending an event at 6 p.m. this evening at McKinney Park, 625 W Pool Road.

Mexico's TV Azteca will be at the park to film people supporting Velasquez, who's vying for the title of best singer.

Velasquez is a finalist on "La Academia," Mexico's version of "American Idol" with a little bit of "Big Brother" mixed in.

Esteban won the 2007 Best Mariachi Vocalist in the U.S. title last December at the 13th annual Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza in San Antonio.

Tonight's event is scheduled to air on Channel 48, TV Azteca. The show has a viewing audience of millions in the U.S., Mexico and some South American countries.
