UPDATE: University officials said classes are still in session at the campus. If there is an issue where a classroom has no windows and class cannot proceed, then the decision to hold class will be at the discretion of the professor. Students should still plan on reporting to class unless told otherwise by their professor.
Power is expected to resume at 1:15 p.m. today. Outages have not affected the the performing arts center, or any of the facilities at the Midland Campus.
Original update: ONCOR representative Sue Mercer said they began getting reports of outages at about 10 a.m. and initially 1,346 customers were impacted, although now only 691 customers are without power. UTPB was one of the customers that was impacted. Specifically, UTPB's issues stemmed from a transformer in the maintenance yard, Mercer said. They are currently investigating the cause of the outage, but until that is determined they will not be able to give an estimate for when power will be returned to all customers, Mercer said.
