Update: The situation around OHS has been resolved around 12:30 p.m. ECISD police located the suspect and searched his home; no weapon was found and, as such, no charges will be filed, according to an ECISD news release.
Original version: ECISD police continue to search for a man who, three students told a school police officer, showed a handgun to the students Friday morning not far from Odessa High School.
The students were driving to school at the time.
ECISD communications director Mike Adkins released this statement:
"Around 8:30 a.m. three Odessa High School students were driving to school when they reportedly saw a black male wearing a gray hoodie and black shorts at 9th Street and Bernice. As the kids drove by, the suspect flashed what appeared to be a black, snub-nosed revolver for them to see – he did not point it at them or threaten them. The suspect then continued to walk west away from the school. When they got to school the students told an ECISD officer about it and our school district police took the precaution of setting up a perimeter around the school and then beginning a search of the neighborhood. District police contacted the Odessa Police Department for assistance.
"ECISD police are leading the search for the suspect and they believe they know where he is and they are in the process of confirming it. They do not believe there is any threat to the school but will leave extra officers at the campus for the rest of the school day as a precaution."
