Alpine's Education Opportunity
In preparation for the adult education classes in Alpine and the surrounding area, instructors and administrators recently received training in distance learning. For the first time after an orientation, students 17 years or older who did not graduate from high school will be able to study at home or their local public libraries to prepare for their GED (general education diploma). The Alpine Literacy Committee, with representatives from the Alpine Public Library, Alpine Women’s Club, the Rotary Club, Sul Ross University, Odessa College and Workforce Solutions, will kick off the new course with a mandatory orientation from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 27 at Sul Ross State University, Ferguson Hall, room 203, Alpine. Classes will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, beginning March 2, in the same facility at Sul Ross. Classes and materials are free. However, the student needs to be prepared for the cost of the GED examination, $75, and a $15 Sul Ross parking permit. Reservations are required, by calling 432-837-9800.
