While Texas Forest Service firefighters have been able to contain one major Permian Basin wildfire, another is continuing to grow.

The Midland County Price Fire was estimated to be 100 percent contained as of 6 p.m. Sunday. That blaze consumed about 2,500 acres.

Meanwhile, though, the Huckabee Fire in Pecos County has expanded to nearly 100,000 acres.

The blaze, which is 30 miles southeast of Fort Stockton off Gray Ranch Road was reported at 75 percent Sunday evening. According to forest service reports, the Sherbino Mesa Wind Farm is four miles north of the leading edge of the fire.

Mitchell Gas and the Pucket Plant Gas facilities were directly threatened and saved by the Texas Forest Service resources. Each of the $10 million facilities produce $1 million dollars worth of natural gas a day. Oil/natural gas wells, several ranches, houses and outbuildings continue to be threatened by the fire.

According to the forest service, crews are working to complete line construction. A large burnout (burning unburned fuels between the fire and control line) was done late Saturday on the fire's west side. Crews are holding the lines already established and some mop-up has begun.
