ECISD board plans to discuss Educational Philosophy
- What: The regular ECISD board meeting.
- When: 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
- Where: District board room, 802 N. Sam Houston.
The Ector County Independent School District’s board of trustees will meet for a regular board meeting to discuss several policy proposals, the superintendent’s evaluation and approve several reports.
Tom Pace, board president for ECISD, said he expects the meeting to be routine. He said in his opinion the most important item on the agenda will be board approval of the Educational Philosophy.
“It will set the directions that the district should go in the future,” Pace said.
Pace said the board members have been working on the Educational Philosophy for the past year and will explain the direction the board wants the district to go.
The item after the Educational Philosophy policy involves the approval of the superintendent’s goals. In previous board workshops, board members discussed the goals, which are the same as the Educational Philosophy. Board members said at the previous board workshop, the board’s district goals will be used to evaluate the superintendent.
“I think it’s about time we approve something like this,” Pace said.
In the past, board members had been creating a new set of goals each year and members had said the standards were not consistent.
The board members will also hear:
- Presentations from the National Counseling Proclamation, PTA Reflections Contest winners, Recognition of the All-State Band, Choir and Orchestra, and the World Class Leader in Education Award.
- A request to approve purchasing orders of items over $250,000.
- A request to approve an out-of-state tuition rates; a maximum increase of $33 per family.
- A review of the bilingual/ESL and migrant program updates.
- A request for approval of a grading policy for reports to parents.
- A request for approval for an out-of-state travel for a robotics competition.
- Personnel reports.
- Financial district reports.
