Trustees approve hires
ECISD board fills four administrative positions
Ector County Independent School District trustees unanimously approved four administrative hires Tuesday evening, including a district athletic coordinator position.
Trustees approved Permian High gymnastics coach Todd Vesely as athletic coordinator; Janet Baker, a former ECISD educator and recent part-time worker for ECISD, as the district instructional officer; Jill Lankford, instructional services director at Odessa High, as Hays Magnet Academy principal; and KOSA-TV reporter/anchor Mike Barker as the ECISD-TV Channel 10 manager.
The district instructional officer position was filled to replace retiring administrator Alma Guerrero, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction. Guerrero retires June 30.
Former Hays principal Tisa Hawkins was moved to the assistant principal position at Carver Early Education Center earlier this month.
Barker fills the position vacated by former Channel 10 manager Karen Johnson in the spring.
Trustees also approved reorganization of the board with Carol Gregg as board president, Donna Smith as board vice president and Fay Batch as board secretary.
In other business, trustees approved a district improvement plan and career and technical education textbooks.
Gregg said the board plans to bring administrators and the district continuous improvement team back soon to approve and add in more recent board goals to the improvement plan, which is tweaked frequently to meet the needs of the district.
"It is our intention with in the next few months to set new board goals," she said.
Trustees also recognized ECISD police officer Jeff Daniels as the Optimist Club Law Enforcement Officer of the Year, the Odessa High softball team and the Permian High boys' gymnastics team.
