OC board to discuss drop-rate plan
The Odessa College Board of Trustees meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Joe Zant Jr. Community Room.
Among other matters, trustees will discuss OC’s drop-rate improvement plan in executive session. The Odessa American has objected to discussing the plan behind closed doors, considering it a violation of the Texas Open Meeting Act.
However, OC spokeswoman Cheri Dalton said in an email, “This agenda item will update the board on the progress of the plan and names of specific personnel will be included.” The college argued the matter would fall under deliberating “the appointment, employment, evaluation, reassignment, duties, discipline, or dismissal of a public officer or employee.”
In other business, a public hearing is scheduled on the taxation of goods in transit. Trustees are then slated to consider a resolution exercising the school’s local option to tax property that is otherwise exempt under Texas law.
Also during the meeting, the board will hear finance, scholarship and education reports, and a report from OC President Gregory Williams.
