Odessa philanthropist, businessman and artist Dick Gillham recently donated his welded metal sculpture creation, ‘COSMOS,' to Odessa College. The work has been installed at the south entrance to Sedate Hall on the OC campus. The bright red arrangement of circles suggesting the movement of planets serves as a stimulating visual experience. ‘COSMOS' is the second piece of artwork that Gillham has donated to OC. ‘The generous donations of Gillham's works are a valuable asset to the OC campus and the art program's instructional environment,' said Barry Phillips, the elder, OC art instructor. Several years ago, Gillham also donated his welded sculpture arrangement of ‘Dancers,' five works expressing choreographed human figures, which is permanently on display in the north foyer of Sedate Hall. Gillham has a long-standing relationship with Odessa College, which includes taking welding class in summer 1999 and serving on the OC Manufacturing Department Advisory committee for many years. Gillham also was instrumental in helping to establish the OC-UTPB combined Metal Sculpture classes at OC.
