The Texas Department of Public Safety plans to step up its enforcement on Labor Day in an effort to make the roads safer.

According to a DPS news release, troopers will be on duty from Friday through Monday looking for drunken drivers, speeding vehicles and seat belt violations.

During Labor Day 2007, DPS troopers arrested 912 people on charges of driving while intoxicated and issued nearly 16,000 speeding citations and more than 3,000 seat belt and child resistant tickets.
