Odessa crime rate

The criminal statistics for 2007 were released Wednesday and the total amount of crimes reported were up from the previous year.
The overall Part I crime rate for 2007, all violent and property crimes, increased by 12.43 percent as compared with 2006 - 4,847 report vs. 4,311 reports the previous year.
According to the crime statistics for the City of Odessa, there were six murders in 2007, which is 200 percent more than the two that occurred in 2006.
Other than murder, violent crimes were down 15 percent from the previous year.
Violent crimes consist of rape, murder, aggravated assault and robbery.
Property crimes, such as burglary, larceny, auto theft and arson were up 17 percent from the 2006 numbers.
The only property crime number that was down was arson, which was lowered 51.52 percent from 2006.
The Part II crime rate, offenses such as vandalism, driving while intoxicated, disorderly conduct, drug offenses and weapons offenses, was down 9.6 percent, 5,311 crimes reported in 2007 compared to 5,875 in 2006.
