An oilfield worker suffered severe burns after a tank battery exploded in Martin County on Monday night.
The man was flown to a Lubbock hospital by helicopter. His identity had not been released Tuesday afternoon, but a Martin County Sheriff’s Deputy said he worked for Musslewhite Trucking, which lists its headquarters in Levelland.
The cause of the explosion remained under investigation Tuesday.
The tanker battery, off FM 1212 about 3 miles south of Highway 176, belonged to Pioneer Natural Resources, said Deputy Chance Rainer.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of the fire at about 11:15 p.m., the deputy said. The burned man was the only person at the scene. Emergency responders left at about 2:30 a.m.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration would not confirm whether it was investigating on Tuesday.
