UPDATE (Oct. 4, 1:42 p.m.) Odessa police and jail officials misidentified the title of the man who is accused of shooting someone in the MCM Elegante Hotel parking lot Tuesday. Police clarified Thursday that he is Willie Earl Solomon III. The Odessa American regrets the error.
An 18-year-old Waco man was arrested Tuesday night in connection with a shooting in the MCM Elegante Hotel parking lot.
By Wednesday evening, Willie Earl Solomon III, 1100 N. Sixth St., Waco, was listed as being held in Ector County Detention Center on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor failure to identify himself as a fugitive.
His bond had not been set. The Odessa Police Department first announced Wednesday morning that he would be charged in connection with the shooting at MCM Elegante, 5200 E. University Blvd.
When Solomon was charged, he was already being held at the jail without bond on a failure to appear charge and an outstanding parole violation charge. The failure to appear charge stemmed from a terroristic threat case in Falls County, a jail official said Wednesday evening.
Police were called out to the MCM Elegante at about 8:30 p.m. and found 18-year-old Curtis Johnson lying in the parking lot with a gunshot wound to his upper right arm.
Johnson was transported Tuesday night to Medical Center Hospital in critical condition. He remained in critical condition on Wednesday night.
Investigators with the Crime Against Person Unit responded and interviewed witnesses, according to a Tuesday night news release.
At the scene of the shooting Tuesday, detectives combed the parking lot with flashlights. Police were still investigating by about midnight, marking evidence and taking photos around items strewn on the pavement by two parked vehicles, including a pair of shoes. A K-9 unit and the mobile crime lab assisted.
