Howard County grassfire
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The grassfires keep burning in the Permian Basin, this time in Howard County as several agencies are just showing up at a large blaze there, Texas Forest Service spokeswoman Mary Dodson said.
The 320-acre fire kept firefighters busy for several hours in the Vincent area near the Scurry County line until it was fully contained by about 7:30 p.m., Howard County Sheriff Stan Parker said.
Howard County volunteer fire chief Tommy Sullivan said two homes were threatened and several fences were burned, but no injuries or major structural damage was reported in the fire.
Sullivan said the fire started when someone was burning a stack of tumbleweeds and inadvertently let the fire spread. Howard County's burn ban only permits trash burning in a metal bin that is covered by a screen.
As of Tuesday evening, Sullivan said the fire was 100 percent contained and 80 percent extinguished.
Firefighters from Howard County as well as Borden County assisted in putting out the fire.
