Redistricting firm

Ector County commissioners are scheduled Monday to discuss selecting an outside firm to help redraw precinct lines.

The firm will be charged with the task of analyzing 2010 Census data and determining how to draw the lines for the four precincts.

The process is expected to take around three years and cost about $45,000, said Kenneth Lind, county purchasing agent.

Precinct 4 Commissioner Armando Rodriguez has called for redistricting to place more minorities in the three precincts other than his, while County Judge Susan Redford would like the lines to reflect population distribution without regard to racial statistics.

The meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. in the Ector County Administration Building Annex, 1010 E. Eighth Street.

Commissioners are also expected to consider:

>> Accepting $5,200 in donations for construction of the West Side Senior Center.

>> Out-of-state travel for O.C. Carrillo and Alonzo Acosta to the NFMT Conference in Baltimore.

>> Lamp and ballasts bid.

>> The Sole Source list of vendors.

>> Bid specifications on water base traffic paint, a Gardendale Park tennis court-resurfacing project, vending machine services and a security camera and recorder system in the Administration Annex Building.

>> An amendment on a Substance Abuse Service Contract between the county and the Texas Department of State Health Services.

>> An amendment to a contract between the county and the Office of the Rural Community Affairs.

>> A Qualified Replacement Benefit Arrangement and Adoption Agreement with the Texas County and Retirement System.

>> To consider selling property in the Midway Country Estates Subdivision in Gardendale for $230,000 and property at 1301 S. Texas Ave. for $2,750, both of which are less than market value.

>> Line item transfers in the medical examiner's office.
