Buffalo Trail Council receives recognition with grant support
Citibank has awarded $5,000 to the Buffalo Trail Council in support of the Council’s efforts to impact the lives of at-risk youth.
Through the support of Citibank the Council will be helping vulnerable youth in our area to avoidpitfalls like involvement in crime.
Counter balancing the negative peer pressure leading to criminal activities, Learning for Life provides opportunities to develop the ability for youth to think for themselves — self determination:
>> Setting goals within the Learning for Life program.
>> Receiving recognition for achieving goals within Scouting.
>> Setting goals in other aspects of their lives: school, career, hobbies.
>> Receiving recognition for achieving goals: better grades, graduation, career.
A U.S. Department of Health and Human Services report found “self determination: the ability to think for oneself and take action consistent with that through” to be one of the 14 positive factors in reducing juvenile crime. (http://aspe.hhs.gov/hsp/
