Money in the drain
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The Odessa City Council will vote Tuesday to put money in the drain.
The council will consider bids to renovate the Eastside Drainage Channel, which will run from Pagewood Avenue to Business Interstate 20, near JBS Parkway.
The city's engineering staff recommended the low bid of $698,307 from Onyx Contractors Operations LP of Midland, which was 11.4 percent below engineer estimates of $788,000 for the project.
The council will also vote on authorizing the purchase and installation of safety surface material for Progressive Park for $169,154. It is the same material installed at Ramirez Park more than a year ago.
A vote on modernization of an elevator at Municipal Plaza is also expected. The $127,300 contract with Otis Elevator of Fort Worth will address the elevator's motor, control system, emergency system and other issues.
In other action, the council will consider:
>> Second and final approval for a new Code of Ordinances.
>> A bid award for $115,000 for a multijurisdictional hazard mitigation action plan for the city.
>> Odessa Police Department purchases for $60,640 for computer equipment and $102,821 for cleaning and alteration of uniforms.
>> Buying a shade structure for the performance stage at Noel Plaza for $89,956.
>> Final approval for abandonment of a portion of Fourth Street and Washington Avenue for Medical Center Hospital expansion purposes and of an alley at First United Methodist Church.
>> Authorizing the police department to apply for a STEP Speed, Intersection Traffic Control, DWI and seatbelts grant to fund $95,829.65 in overtime.
>> Donating the city's interest in properties at 409 S. Muskingum Ave. and 609 Myrtle St. for expansion of Ector County Cemetery.
>> Naming UTPB Softball Complex Field No. 1 "Powell Field."
