Commissioners to discuss pipeline

At Monday’s scheduled meeting of the Ector County Commissioners’ Court, commissioners will take action regarding a Colorado River Municipal Water District pipeline agreement.

The pipeline will transport water from the well fields in Ward County and go to the water treatment plant on West 42nd Street. Should the agreement be approved, Public Works Project Director David Peck said construction would be scheduled for February.

Peck said because of the planned construction, the project had to go before the court for approval.

Another item on Monday’s agenda is for commissioners to consider taking action on establishing a closed point of dispensing at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin.

Points of Dispensing are locations throughout counties which are used to distribute medications in the event of a health emergency.

Public Health Emergency Preparedness Manager Mike Samp said there are two types of PODs; closed and open. The difference between the two is an open POD would assist all members of the county while a closed one assists those of a certain group to help take pressure off open ones.

The proposed POD at UTPB, Samp said, would administer vaccines or medications to faculty members, students, and their families in the case of an epidemic.

Commissioners will also:

>> Recognize county employees who participated in the Walk Across Texas Program.

>> Consider adoption of a policy regarding the method of reimbursement to the county for the “no show” fee at the Wellness Clinic.

>> Consider the increase in fees for alcohol monitoring for the Ector County Post Sentence Monitoring Program to $9 per day and to allow the change in the program rules and regulations.

>> Receive the fiscal year 2011 annual audit report of the Ector County Jail Commissary Account.
