Presidio prepares for new clinic

A brand new clinic is on the horizon for residents in Presidio County.

The United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development approved a $100,000 Community Facilities loan to fund the construction of the new clinic, according to a press release.

Other funds approved were a $591,000 Community Facilities Loan and a $500,000 Economic Impact Initiative Grant, the release stated.

Presidio County Health Services, Inc. sent the application for the federal loan in 2004 through the Commissioner’s Court, Chief Operating Officer Allison Scott said.

Currently Presidio County Health Services, Inc. operates one clinic in the city of Presidio and one in Marfa and there is a private clinic in each city, Scott said.

Their Presidio clinic is currently renting space and the new facility will be a permanent home for it, Scott said.

The new facility is estimated to be about 5,000 square feet and will feature several exam rooms, Chief Executive Officer Elva Torres said.

After it’s built they hope to add dental services in the future, Torres said.

Overall the project will cost $1,191,000, the release stated.

“Everybody’s really excited about this project,” Torres said.
