Tejano car show
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Music and cars will come together Sunday during the 38th annual Tejano Super Car Show.
Actor Eric Martinez will co-host the event with B93 radio. He has been to Odessa for events in the past, including as an attendee for the car show in the past. His mom and dad, Eloisa and Tommy Aguilar, live in Gardendale. Until recently, he also led a record company in Albuquerque, N.M. But, Odessa is close to his heart.
“Odessa pretty much adopted me seven years ago,” he said.
The car show will feature concerts by more than a dozen musical artists as well as show off plenty of tricked out cars to the public. The car hop gives the lowriders a chance to show off their hydraulics, popping the vehicles up and down.
Martinez said he enjoys the lowrider culture and the Odessa show is one of the most famous of those car shows nationwide.
“It’s safe and fun, and I always hear people talking about it, even at Los Vegas or Los Angeles,” he said.
He said lowrider culture has helped get kids off the streets to do something positive. He said that even going to shows in Japan, people know the lowrider culture.
“We’re getting a lot of love, and it’s great seeing how widespread it is,” Martinez said.
He said he looks forward to coming to the show as a host this time. He recently appeared on the season finale of the cable show “In Plain Sight” and served as a celebrity guest host for Latin Fashion Week in Chicago.
Nick Hernandez Sr. is the main promoter for the car show. He said the show keeps diversifying every year and becoming all about entertainment.
“It has really a little bit of everything,” he said.
A washer pitching tournament with a $2,000 prize was added this year, and other car divisions include a $1,000 prize.
He said he thinks the show will grow further this year due to an expanded level of advertising and marketing.
“More people are getting introduced to the show,” Hernandez said.
