Teen succumbs to ATV crash injuries

A 17-year-old Cuero teen who crashed his ATV while climbing a mountain in a remote Brewster County ranch died Sunday afternoon at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

Brewster County Sheriff Ronny Dodson said Cole Pargmann never regained consciousness after the Saturday morning crash, which was about 45 miles south of Marathon. Pargmann was pronounced dead at 1:25 p.m. Sunday.

The teen was visiting his uncle at a ranch and heading up a mountain alone Saturday morning on the ATV. His uncle and other relatives there started looking for him when he didn’t return, and they later found him lying unconscious near his ATV with a massive head injury. Dodson said Saturday he was probably lying there for about an hour-and-a-half.

At the time, Pargmann’s pulse was so weak paramedics couldn’t risk putting him on a helicopter, so they instead drove him to Marathon until he was stable enough for the flight, Dodson said Saturday.
