Pecos still looking for city manager
PECOS The city of Pecos is still looking for a new city manager after the city council took no action on hiring someone at their latest meeting.
Pecos Mayor Venetta Seals said she received four new applicants for the position last week; however, the city council decided not to take any action at their meeting Thursday evening.
“We previewed some, but we didn’t take action on any of them,” Seals said.
While she was not sure on the exact number of applications the city council has received regarding the position, Seals said knows the number is “at least 20.”
Originally, Jim Aguilera was hired as the new city manager on July 6, but the city withdrew their offer once it was discovered Aguilera had a prior bribery conviction as a city official in California, which he did not disclose to the council.
Federico Reyes was hired as assistant city manager on July 6 and has been working for the city since Aug. 1.
Pecos Police Chief Clay McKinney has been serving as interim city manager since Joseph Gilbert Torres was found dead March 30 in his backyard from what officials called a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
