Buford meets at Immanuel Baptist Church

A former church member will return to Immanuel Baptist Church Nov. 7 to perform as part of the annual "Home for the Holidays" luncheon.

It’s an experience Robbin Buford is looking forward to fondly.

"I was flabbergasted when asked. I remember being a child and going to this event thinking the musicians were just amazing," Buford said.

She said the church contacted her and asked her to come and perform. She said she plans to share both some music she has written and also traditional holiday-themed music. But, the songs are just part of the homecoming.

"I want to share my testimony of what has happened to me since I left Odessa," Buford said. "God’s been good."

While growing up in Odessa, she was very involved in missions and music. It was a church member that told her about a music therapy career and led her down that path. As a music therapist, the only one in a school setting in Oklahoma, she works to help kids through music. She’s trying to increase the status of the profession.

"I just spoke at the legislature a few weeks ago trying to get music therapy recognized," Buford said.

She said she would love to come back to work in Odessa if given the opportunity because the community gave her the start she needed.

"Odessa really is my foundation, from Hood to Permian Black Magic to OC. I’m excited to perform," she said.
