Grandfalls man dies in rollover

A 51-year-old Grandfalls man died early Saturday morning in a one-car rollover wreck in Ward County.

Howard Cecil Hays, driving a 1997 Ford truck north, lost control and slid off Highway 18, about one mile south of County Road 329, according to a Department of Public Safety report. Upon hitting the roadside ditch, the car rolled to its right side and struck an electrical pole.

The car also hit a tree and a building during its 200-foot slide, the report said.

Hays was pronounced dead at 7:33 a.m. at Ward County Memorial Hospital. He was wearing a seatbelt, the report said.
