Elevator contract approved

Odessa College trustees voted unanimously Tuesday evening to approve a contract with Otis Elevator to modernize seven elevators on campus.

Included in the total $469,170 contract is five years of maintenance on all 12 elevators on campus and will bring seven elevators up to code. Modernization of the seven elevators will take place over the course of two or three years according to Vice President for Business Affairs Virginia Chisum.

Sports committee member Sandra Shaw presented a new requirement by the state mandating colleges have an official policy on restricting or allowing sports agents to contact students on campus.

"This develops a process so the athletic director knows when an agent is on campus and defines a timeline for when the agents can do that (come on campus)," Shaw said. Trustees unanimously approved the issue.

Clayton Alred reported on recommendations by KOCV management about the status and future of the public FM radio station housed on the OC campus.

Alred reported a plan, which included relocating the station and transmitter to a location near Gardendale and increasing the number of full-time employees. The one-time expense of relocating and updating the station is estimated to be $258,400 and ongoing yearly expenditures would amount to an estimated $217,000, which would include the estimated financial shortfall, lease and personnel.

Trustees voted to give the administration the authority to either look at other uses or look for a disposition of the program and put it on the agenda for the next board meeting.
