Bone fragment puzzles officials

The Ector County Sheriff's Office has a piece of a puzzle that confounds them for now.

A neurosurgeon confirmed Wednesday that a piece of bone found in an oil field company truck last week is part of a human skull.

Sheriff Mark Donaldson said investigators are trying to find someone who may have put the bone in the truck without realizing what it is. While there is no evidence of foul play, Donaldson said there are few clues as to where the bone came from.

"This is just weird," Donaldson said. "It's not the kind of thing that you find very often..."

According to a news release by Sgt. Gary Duesler, the bone fragment was found Aug. 14 inside a pickup in a oil field company parking lot. While it has been confirmed as human, there is no way to tell if it is from a man or a woman.

The sheriff indicated that no other bone fragments were found and that there is no way to know if the bone came from a medical cadaver.

Donaldson said investigators need any information anyone may have about the bone.

"If we can find out where it came from, then we can start from there," he said.
