Man held without bond

A West Odessa man arrested Aug. 22 on charges of punching an Ector County deputy and spitting on two others during a misdemeanor drug arrest is now being held without bond.

Florencio Ramirez III, 13550 W. Citation Drive, was indicted Aug. 23 by a grand jury in the 244th District Court of Ector County on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Ramirez is accused of stabbing Jessie Ledesma and his daughter Juanita Ledesma with scissors on Feb. 25. According to the arrest affidavit in that case, Ramirez was visiting Jessie Ledesma’s younger daughter at their home when he behaved disrespectfully and Jessie Ledesma asked Ramirez to leave. The affidavit said Ramirez responded by attacking Jessie Ledesma, first barehanded, then with an aluminum broom handle and finally with scissors, cutting Jessie Ledesma in the eye, chin and arm.

Juanita Ledesma assisted her father, but Ramirez cut her in the arm with the scissors as well, the affidavit said. This gave Jessie Ledesma time to pick up a baseball bat and hit Ramirez with it in the ribs until Ramirez knocked the bat out of his hands using the scissors, the affidavit said.

The affidavit said Ramirez forced Jessie Ledesma to the ground and tried to stab him in the left eye with the scissors until Juanita Ledesma picked up the bat and hit Ramirez on the top of the head, knocking him to the floor and ending the incident.

Ramirez was arrested June 9 in that case but was released on bond.
