Deputies shoot man in Fort Stockton hotel

A man was shot and killed Friday evening at a Fort Stockton hotel.

Pecos County Sheriff Deputies were called to the Deluxe Inn located at 500 E. Dickinson Blvd., around 4 p.m. to calm down a man who was screaming in the hotel parking lot, Pecos County Sheriff Cliff Harris said.

After trying to calm the man down in his hotel room, Harris said the man took one of the deputy’s guns and fired one shot.

While the bullet went astray and no one was hurt, the other deputy shot and killed the man, Harris said.

No names are being released as the investigation has been handed over to the Texas Rangers. Harris said the deputies, who only suffered some scratches and bruises as they scuffled with the man, are still active and have not been placed on any type of leave.
