OC board considers serving alcohol
The Odessa College board of trustees met last night and heard a number of reports and financial statements.
The meeting began with the board’s approval of four foreclosed properties to be sold below market value.
The next item of action included the approval of alcohol consumption at selected college functions. College administrators said up until now, the college has not been allowed to have any alcohol at any functions. The new policy is aimed at allowing alcohol for some of the culinary arts events or at some the college’s foundation events.
The item was approved by the board pending approval of college president Gregory Williams before each event.
Virginia Chisum , vice president of business affairs for the college, gave a presentation on the board’s financial reports. She said the college ended the financial year in December with $1.1 million in excess revenue, compared to last year’s nearly $800,000.
“Our revenues are slightly ahead of where they were last year,” she said to board members.
She said thinks the excess could be attributed to the college’s attempt at keeping costs down and the increase in more property tax payments being made in December.
All board members were present for the meeting which adjourned at 8:22 p.m.
The board also:
- Approved the monthly statements and budget amendments.
- Approved a congratulatory resolution for the induction of J. E. Pressley in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference Hall of Fame.
- Heard president reports on 11 programs and announcements in the college.
- Heard a report on the college’s institutional effectiveness department.
