No one attends hearing

Like at its Aug. 31 public hearing, no one addressed the Odessa College board of trustees on its proposed fiscal year 2010-2011 tax rate Thursday evening. So after waiting 15 minutes, the board’s second public hearing was adjourned.

The board will vote on a final tax rate at its Sept. 28 meeting. A rate of 15.84 cents per $100 property tax valuation was proposed by the board last month.

Virginia Chisum, OC vice president of academic affairs, said the owners of the average home in Ector County would pay $142.02 in property taxes to the college for the coming fiscal year if the board approves the rate. That is an increase of $5.12 over the current fiscal year.
