Fatal ATV accident
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Grandfather dies in accident near Kermit
WINKLER COUNTY An ATV accident in the sand hills north of Kermit killed a 54-year-old grandfather, Winkler County Sheriff Robert Roberts told the Odessa American.
The man, whose name was being withheld by the sheriff's office until his next of kin was notified, was riding in a Polaris ATV over the hills near State Highway 115, 10 miles northeast of Kermit, when he crashed during a descent, Roberts said.
His granddaughter was with him following in another ATV, but the man was pronounced dead at 3:53 p.m. Monday at the scene of the accident, Roberts said.
The man was the only person on that ATV. He was wearing a helmet.
The county typically has three to four ATV accidents a month. Roberts said this accident was the first fatal vehicle accident this year.
