RANKIN After more than a week of confusion, Upton County election officials have re-tabulated the disputed results of the March 2 primary.
Kristin E. Reid, the county’s Democratic party chair, attributed the exaggerated results — which showed a turnout of more than 95 percent — to two "bad" memory cards used in the voting machines.
"They were the same ones we used last year, but they gave us trouble this time," she said.
Reid said county officials re-tabulated the votes on Wednesday and that they matched their hand-counted results, in which about 62 percent of the electorate voted.
Reid said the numbers, though not yet officially canvassed, will force a runoff between Bill Eyler and incumbent Vikki Bradley in the race for county judge.
All the other races ended up with the same winners.
