Powerplant plan pushes Falcon announcement back

The public announcement of state funding for an armament manufacturing company opening in Odessa that Gov. Rick Perry was expected to attend has been postponed due to the anticipated FutureGen power plant announcement.

Falcon International Inc. is receiving state money from the Emerging Technology Fund, a Perry initiative.

The event was scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin’s CEED Building, just an hour after the FutureGen Alliance plans to announce from Washington, D.C., its final site location for a near-zero-emissions coal-fired power plant that Penwell is a finalist for.

Since the FutureGen announcement would overshadow the Falcon announcement, event coordinators decided to reschedule the Falcon announcement for early next year, Odessa Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Director Gary Vest said.

The FutureGen announcement will be broadcast live over the Internet and local developers involved in the project are gathering at the CEED Building to watch the event.
