Alred could leave

Clayton Alred, vice president for instruction at Odessa College, said he’s been named a finalist for the presidency at two southwest area institutions of higher learning.
Alred said he considers his 27 years of experience at Odessa College and his educational background to make him qualified for the position at either Luna Community College in Las Vegas, N.M., or Trinity Valley Community College in Athens.
“This has been one of my goals that I would like to fulfill,” he said.
Alred said he’s one of five finalists for the presidency at Luna and one of three finalists at Trinity Valley.
Efforts to reach representatives of both institutions were unsuccessful Wednesday.
Since both New Mexico and Texas have a 21-day waiting period of announcing candidate selections following finalist announcements, Alred said he anticipates knowing if he was named to a position once the 21 days was up.
Alred received his bachelor’s degree in biology and chemistry from Angelo State University in 1973.
He received his master’s degree of education from Sul Ross State University in 1976 and his PhD in educational administration from the University of Texas at Austin’s Community College Leadership Program in 1982.
