Two killed in fatal accident near Kermit
A 33-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman died after, an accident report states, their vehicles collided head-on two miles outside of Kermit.
Oil field worker Enrique Mayers and restaurant manager Terri K. Schmidt, both of Kermit, were both pronounced dead at the scene Monday evening by Winkler Justice of the Peace Delynn Trammel, a spokeswoman with the Department of Public Safety in Pecos said.
Around 8:50 p.m., Mayers was eastbound on State Highway 302 in his 2011 Chevrolet Malibu when for an unknown reason, his vehicle veered into the westbound lane and collided head-on with Schmidt’s 2003 Saturn L20, the spokeswoman said.
Mayers was not wearing his seatbelt and was pronounced at 9:35 p.m., the spokeswoman said. Schmidt was pronounced at 9:25 p.m. and was reported as wearing a seatbelt.
Trooper Alonzo Urquidi of Kermit investigated the accident.
