Midland man killed in head-on collision, report says

A Midland resident was killed Thursday afternoon in an accident on State Highway 118 two miles south of Fort Davis, the Department of Public Safety reported.

Patricia Deishler, a DPS communications operator, said Daniel Patrick Hogan, 46, was killed instantly after his northbound 2008 Toyota pickup swerved into the southbound lanes and collided with a 2004 Ford pickup towing a gooseneck horse carrier, both driven by Todd Douglas Sharron of Alpine.

Trooper Stephen Boultinghouse, according to his report, was driving right behind Hogan's Toyota when the he swerved into the oncoming traffic at 5:13 p.m. Thursday. Sharron was unable to avoid Hogan's Toyota and the two collided head-on, the report said.

Sharron was taken to a hospital in Alpine, Deishler said, before he was transported to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. However, a nursing supervisor said he was at the emergency room but was no longer there by midnight Friday.

Both trucks were severely damaged. The report did not indicate whether the horse carrier held a horse at the time of the crash, but Deishler said there was no request for animal control made for the accident, which would normally be the case had an animal been in an accident.
