ODESSA Beloved Husband, Father, Friend of many. Fritz never met a stranger because he always treated everyone with honor and respect. Born to Herman and Blanche Grauerholz on April 5, 1919 he was the second of three children. He enrolled in Kansas State University in 1936 at age 17. During his time at the university he also volunteered to serve in the Kansas National Guard graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. In February 1941 he volunteered in the United States Army where he served brilliantly overseas in many campaigns. Fritz, was a genuine U.S. War hero, awarded the Bronze Star and the Legion of Merit for his bravery in World War II. Fritz went on to earn his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Michigan in 1948 and began a Law Firm in Coffeyville, Kansas. Elected to the Kansas Legislature Fritz worked closely with Bob Dole and has remained friends for some 46 years.
In 1981 Fritz moved to Odessa to accept his position as Assistant President for Eckel Manufacturing Company where he served well during the oil boom. While in Odessa, Fritz continued to advance himself educationally earning a BA degree in Business and a Masters in Business Administration.
Fritz served as Post Commander of American Legion in Kansas and was an active member here in Odessa too. As a member of the VFW Honor Guard in Odessa, Fritz served proudly at Military funerals for many years. He was also honorary member of the Confederate Air force.
As a spiritual man, Fritz, who loves his Lord, Now serves in heavenly places continuing his service to others by the hand of God Himself.
Fritz is survived by his wife, Sandy Grauerholz of Odessa; one son, James Winston Grauerholz of Kansas; a sister, Helen Brown of Arizona; four loving step-daughters, Tina Ortegon of Lubbock, Ida Hicks and her husband David of San Angelo, Lindy Castillo and Jaylon Schmidt of Arlington, Monique Pina and husband Julio of San Angelo; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. We will miss you greatly.
A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 6, 2012, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Terry Pugh officiating.
