TECUMSEH, OKLA. E. Vernon Drain, age 58, died in Gainesville, Texas on Monday, December 27, 2010, from complications as a result of a job-related injury in the Virgin Islands.

Born February 7, 1952, to Pauline and Woodrow Drain in Odessa, Texas, he graduated from Odessa High School and obtained an associates degree from Henderson State University.

Vernon served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, stationed at the Naval Air Base in Millington, Tennessee. During his military service he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and a number of commendations.

He lived in many places including Odessa, Texas, Sims, Ark., Gainesville, Texas, Atlanta, Ga., St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands and Willow Grove, Pa. At the time of his death he was employed as a civilian by the U.S. Navy at the Willow Grove Naval Air Station.

Vernon’s interests included woodworking, boating, skiing, horses, travel and a love of nature.

Survivors include a sister, Peggy Drain of Gainesville, Texas; a brother, Loyd Drain of Cheyenne, Wyo.; and eight nieces and nephews.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Judy Drain.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, January 8, 2011, at Tecumseh Cemetery in the family burial plot under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home, Tecumseh, Okla. Relatives and friends are welcome.
