ODESSA James William “Jim” Bushong was born Aug. 17, 1935, in Coleman County, Texas. He passed from this life on May 31, 2010. Jim married the love of his life and soulmate, Shirley, on Oct. 12, 1956. He attended Odessa High School and Odessa College. Jim was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Norma Jean Bushong; great-grandson, Brandon Clay Jackson; and his father, James Andrew Bushong.

Known as hard working, honest and a faithful Christian, Jim was also fun-loving and mischievous to those who knew him best. He was a dependable and caring husband, father and grandfather who was always there when we needed him. Jim loved motorcycles (in his younger days), sports (especially the Odessa Bronchos), gardening, genealogy and traveling. He loved the Lord and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a Texas Master Gardner, which brought him so much pleasure.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Jean Bushong; daughter, Jackie Gilbreath and husband Don; son, Doug Bushong and wife Kelly; daughter, Gail White and husband Doug; son, Randy Bushong; daughter, Sandy Nease; grandchildren, Melissa Williams, Chris Jackson, Tina Myers, Jamie Gilbreath, Justin Jackson, Kourtney Mewhorter, Renee Pettigrew, Makailey Pittman, Lyndsey Bushong, Jason Bushong, Tyler McCann, Tara Bushong, Cassie Bradley, Ryan White, Brandon and Lauren Crosby; 15 great-grandchildren; mother, Hazel Bushong; brothers, George Bushong and wife Louellen, Lewis Bushong and Gerald Bushong and wife Debbie; sister, Mary Sanders.; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was loved dearly by all, including his brothers-in-law, Tim, Wylie and J.D. Hokett; and his sister-in-law, Greta Campbell.

The family will receive friends at Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 2, 2010, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. A celebration of Jim’s life will be on Thursday, June 3, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 8644 Andrews Highway, Odessa, Texas, with Pastor James Bishop officiating.
