MIDLAND Lola A. Watson, of Midland, passed away Saturday, January 12, 2008.

She was born February 18, 1949, to Selso Lopez Abalos and Juanita H. Barrera Abalos in Rankin, Texas, where she was raised and educated. Lola attended beauty school in Odessa, Texas, and worked as a beautician for several years. She then changed careers to work for Boggs Grocery Store before she and her husband, John, became the owners in the mid-1980s. The store became known as John’s Grocery & Market until 2003 when John and Lola retired. They moved to Midland, Texas in 2006. She was an active member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Rankin. She also served as a Little League Softball Coach, winning every season.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Lupe Barrandey, Rito Abalos, Henry Abalos, Micaela Haro, Nettie Pulido and Natalie Sandoval.

Lola is survived by her husband, John Watson of Midland, TX; sons, Fred Watson and Brandon Watson, both of Midland, TX; her guardian angel, niece Victoria Abalos; brothers, Frank Abalos of Rankin, TX; Andres Abalos and wife, Rose of Midland, TX; Brijido Esparza and wife, Cata of Rankin, TX; sister, Josie Mata and her husband, Fred of Odessa, TX.

A rosary was held at 7:00 p.m. Monday, January 14, 2008, at Ellis Funeral Home.

Funeral services have been scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 15, 2008, at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Rankin, Texas. Interment will follow at Rankin Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mark Abalos, Ismael Barrandey, Larry Abalos, Frankie Abalos, Kermit Watson, Naldo Esparza, Russell Sandoval, Pano Mata, Joe Pulido and Silver Haro. Honorary pallbearers will be Henry Pulido and Tony Flores.
