Midland hip-hop team wins Dance World’s Championship

MIDLAND The Alpha Cheer & Dance International Open Hip Hop dance team from Midland recently won the Dance World's Championship.

This event is the premier of competitions as dance teams from all over the world want to represent their respective country. The Permian Basin's  athletes received an invitation to compete at this competition after having the highest score at the National Dance Alli­ance's National Championship March 1 in Dallas.

The Dance Worlds took place April 25 weekend at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Fla., and included teams representing countries from all over the world.

Alpha took first place of all of the teams from Chile, China, Columbia, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Japan and Scotland as well as took the title from the raining champs from the United Kingdom.

Alpha also faced stiff competition from other United States teams just to compete in the finale during the two-day competition.

The team is coached by Jordan Johnson, Sherry Johnson and Kristin Carter.

Alpha's International Team has consistently been recognized as one of the top dance teams in the country and competed in the Dance Worlds for the third consecutive year finishing in third and fourth place respectively in 2007 and 2008. 

World Champions are: Jordan Boler, Kristin Carter, Kelly Chroback, Kaila Cooksey, Zavana Gardner, Joey Hahn, Kylie Harper, Jaclyn Ingram, Jordan Johnson, Alye Luck, Cheyanne McCullough, Amy McKandles, Jerry Ozuna, Hillary Robertson, Kylie Rodriguez, Bailey Slater, Blair Slater, Mary Stack and Davis Stumberg.
