Socialist health care?

ODESSA AMERICAN

Re: The Oct. 10 letter from the Rev. Mark Miller, who I guess speaks for the Catholic churches in South Odessa.

I have been wondering why he just didn’t sign his letter as an individual.

Here is what is troubling to me. If one individual is going to speak for the Catholic Church, then, in my opinion, the  church has lost the right to be in tax-exempt status.

When our churches start taking a stand in politics, they can have a great influence in the outcome of any election.

We do have affordable health care available to us right now. You can shop via Internet or locally and get what you can afford.

That’s the trouble now. Most of us think our government is the solution to fix anything.

When our government gets involved, it will have control over all our lives.

Socialism is a political and economic theory advocating state ownership and control of the means of production, distribution and exchange.

I don’t know about Rev. Miller, but I choose to leave our government out of my personal well-being.

Our government can’t keep giving handouts like we have for a long time. When you encourage families to multiply who simply can’t afford it, then it becomes a burden on those who work hard and still have to pay for the indigent care and welfare benefits for others.

China has experienced a population explosion because of the expansion of families, so those in that country are limited to only one child per couple because the government couldn’t take care of them.

If we keep going at this rate, we will be asking other nations to feed us as we hold our hands out asking our government to give us something. This is not the solution.

By getting off your duff and getting an education, people can use hard work and free enterprise to fix our problems.

After all, our government has bankrupted our Social Security and postal system and destroyed Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

And some people want it in charge of our personal health care? No sir, not me. I will take care of my own!
